We cooperate as an association to advance the practice of sculpture and the reputation and appreciation of sculpture and sculptors in the community. This is regardless of whether or not we make a living from sculpture and regardless of our preferred style or medium. To this end we support artists’ moral rights, we advocate a professional attitude to the production and presentation of work and encourage the artistic and intellectual stimulation of interaction amongst artists of all persuasions.

ASV ACTIVITIES AND EXHIBITIONS

MAY MONTHLY MEETING FOR MEMBERS
Approximately 15 persons were treated to some very interesting work.
Patrick Culshaw hit off with work in progress on his wooden elephants, and also described the activities of the wood workers association. The Chairman underlined ASV policy of giving exposure to emerging sculptors. Michael Meszaros showed work in progress on a maelstrom of fish, a new work and rather dramatic in action.
Work by Raggapen Muniandy, a new member, was illustrated with slides of work in progress in a new Hindu temple at Rockbank, Vic, which Michael commented used techniques hitherto unknown in this country. An image from one of his works in Malaysia is shown below.
Many thanks go to Patrick, Michael and Raggapen for their presentations. Apology received from Rod Barnett.
In addition, Eva Ermer and Rachel Boymal, both new members, made folios available to the meeting of some exciting figurative work – images are shown below.
Rachel Boymal: Woman in Abstraction

Eva Ermer: Bali

Muniandy Ragappen: Arts

of any issues you wish discussed.

ASV ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The next ASV Annual General Meeting is scheduled for 13 July 2011 at Hawthorn meeting rooms. Michael Meszaros will talk on preparation for major prizes and commissions - stepping from small to major scale work for sculptors on the upward path; what might be expected by the organisers; how to plan a major work and how to cost it. The evening will also include a question and answer session for the Committee to discuss any issues such as progress on the web site, and future monthly activities, future exhibitions, etc. Subsequently Committee Elections will be held and volunteers sought for Coordinator roles.
Please consider taking an active role in 2011/2012. We are a voluntary organisation and need volunteers to continue activities.

NEW MEMBERS
Welcome to Paul Cacioli

ASV NEWSLETTERS
A Coordinator for the Newsletter is sought for the next financial year. Please advise the Secretary if you are interested. Please ask the President any questions concerning the position. Help is also needed right now in running off the black and white edition for mail deliveries, and enveloping and mailing. Judy Newman has been helping with this chore, and Office Works have now changed procedures so they will no longer produce the B & W edition while Judy waits; consequently she is required to double her travel time, and this is unreasonable in a country location. Please help.

ASV ANNUAL EXHIBITION SEPT 2011
Beatrice Magalotti is a lonely Coordinator for the ASV flagship exhibition. She urgently needs a Sub-Committee to support her in planning and set up and running the Exhibition. It is a great opportunity for new members to get experience in running exhibitions. Please contact Beatrice (see Coordinator list below).

MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS
As the ASV is short staffed, and with Kay Salehi away June-July and John Ride away July-October, would members please pay their Renewals by Wednesday 6 July, so that they are all processed before John goes away. Members who have not paid by a date yet to be fixed will be removed from the database, and they will need to re-join.
