President's Letter for March 2017

President Gillian Govan
Hi all,

It is great to see what we are capable of in organising a first class exhibition and as individuals producing such brilliant, diverse and beautiful sculptures. Congratulations to all.

I would like to thank Mark Cowie for his hard work, patience and dedication to the Garden show. We have been so fortunate to have had Mark to build on what started as a small idea that became reality. He has not only organised the exhibitions since 2011 but has brought together many sculptors and introduced many people to the world of sculpture.

In 1996 Rod Sanders an ex President and long time member saw the opportunity for us to participate in the Garden Show. The ASV exhibition was set up and has gone from strength to strength due to dedicated coordinators, Jenny Rickards, Bronwyn and Patrick Culshaw with help from Michael Meszaros and other committed members.

The size and scope of the exhibition increased when we were able to use the central Boulevard and by this time Mark Cowie had taken over. The exhibition has continued to grow in quality and quantity of sculptures and is now a very popular and important part of the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. In fact I believe a great draw card.

Mark is now standing back and letting others take the reins. Do we want to continue as an integral part of the Garden Show? Yes we do. Can we do it? Yes we can. HELP!

I know Mark is a very hard act to follow but he already had a very good team this year to help him. Paul Cacioli, Jenny Rickards and Yvonne Monik who are waiting in the wings to build on our success. However we do need more people to help. Please offer now while the success of the exhibition is fresh in your minds. Please contact Paul Cacioli on 0429 575 299 to see what you can do.

In the meantime,
Happy Sculpting

Gillian
