We cooperate as an association to advance the practice of sculpture and the reputation and appreciation of sculpture and sculptors in the community. This is regardless of whether or not we make a living from sculpture and regardless of our preferred style or medium. To this end we support artists’ moral rights, we advocate a professional attitude to the production and presentation of work and encourage the artistic and intellectual stimulation of interaction amongst artists of all persuasions.

Imaginings

Anthony (Byung) Kim welcoming his guests
Part of the Display
Popular member Anthony Kim and his wife Betty, welcomed guests at the opening on June 3rd of "Imaginings" the solo exhibition of his art works at the Victorian Artists Society, Frater gallery in East Melbourne. His exhibition was spread over two large rooms, and generously catered for. On show were a collection of 46 sculptures in either marble, wood, terracotta sandstone, and limestone and 24 oil paintings. Anthony has been involved with art for over 40 years, he began his artistic career as a painter and calligrapher in South Korea. In 1986, he and his family immigrated to Melbourne, which has been his home ever since. As a painter Anthony has employed the use of oil, watercolour and ink, to create vivid imagery from the familiar to the abstract. His subjects have included recognisable landscapes, portraits and those of pure imagination. As a calligrapher, Anthony specialises in Korean and Chinese calligraphy. He is a member of the Victorian Artists Society, and he and Betty are active members of the ASV.

His subjects are based on the natural and the abstract, ranging from portraits, figures and landscapes – all characterised with his imaginative touch.

This solo exhibition was a celebration of his work and his commitment to his craft. Anthony can be contacted on email at anthonybnkim@ hotmail.com
